About Solar Panel

A solar panel is actually a collection of solar (or photovoltaic) cells, which can be used to generate electricity through photovoltaic effect. These cells are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of solar panels. Thus, it may also be described as a set of photovoltaic modules, mounted on a structure supporting it. A photovoltaic (PV) module is a packaged and connected assembly of 6×10 solar cells. When it comes to wear-and-tear, these panels are very hardy. Solar panels wear out extremely slow. In a year, their effectiveness decreases only about one to two per cent (at times, even lesser). Most solar panels are made up using crystalline silicon solar cells. Installation of solar panels in homes helps in combating the harmful emissions of greenhouse gases and thus helps reduce global warming. Solar panels do not lead to any form of pollution and are clean. They also decrease our reliance on fossil fuels (which are limited) and traditional power sources. These days, solar panels are used in wide-ranging electronic equipments like calculators, which work as long as sunlight is available. However, the only major drawback of solar panels is that they are quite costly. Also, solar panels are installed outdoors as they need sunlight to get charged.

Working Principle OF Solar Panel

Once the solar energy falls on the solar panel, it is absorbed. Each panel of a solar panel includes a semiconductor material to combine the properties of the insulator and metals. So it makes light energy to be converted into electricity. Once the energy from the sun falls on the panel, a semiconductor is absorbed, the energies of the photons are transferred to electrons and allow the flow of electrons through the material, like an electric current. As sunlight falls on the solar cell, a large number of photons hit the P-silicon region. After absorbing the energy of the photon, the electron and hole pair will separate. The electron moves from the p-type field to the n-type field due to the action of the electric field at the p-n junction. In addition, the diode is reversed to increase this electric field. So this current starts flowing in the circuits for individual solar cells. We combine the current of all solar cells in a solar panel to achieve a significant output. In solar power plants, a large number of solar panels are interconnected to achieve large voltage outputs. The electricals energy coming from the combined effort of the solar panels is supplied to the lithium-ion battery at night when there is no sunlight.

Benifits of Solar Panel

Less Impact To The Environment

Utilizing the power of the sun to power your home is definitely better for the environment as compared with other sources of energy.

Save On Utility Bills

One of the main reasons many homeowners are opting for home solar systems is that they can help save on monthly utility bills.

Reliable Energy Source

By installing a home solar system, you no longer have to rely on traditional power sources of electricity which are sometimes unreliable.
